As Blake Griffin was named the rookie of the year on Wednesday, this finalizes all the major individual awards. Here's a rundown.
MVP- Derrick Rose, point guard Chicago
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard, center Orlando
6th Man of the Year: Lamar Odom, power forward LA Lakers
Most Improved Player of the Year: Kevin Love, power forward Minnesota
Coach of the Year: Tom Thibodeau, Chicago
Bill Russell statue to be built: The City of Boston and Boston Celtics announced they will soon build a statue of former basketball player great Bill Russell. The center won 11 championships in 13 seasons with Boston. He averaged 15 points per game and 22 rebounds. Russell also became the first black NBA coach. No date was set on when the statue will begin getting built. Last year, Boston made a statue for hockey great Bobby Orr. Now its Russell's turn.
Rockets interviewed Lucas: Houston who let coach Rick Adelman go, interviewed John Lucas on Wednesday. He is the third coach to get an interview for the vacated coaching position. The first two were former Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson, and former New Jersey coach Lawrance Frank. Houston also got permission to talk with Dallas assistant coach Dwayne Casey. Lucas has a record of 174-258 with three different NBA franchises, including San Antonio, Cleveland, and Philadelphia.
NBA game previews resume tomorrow as their are no games scheduled for Thursday.
