Murphy/ Bibby bought out: Recently acquired players Troy Murphy and Mike Bibby had their contracts bought out on Monday. Golden State bought out Murphy's contract, making him elgible to play for a playoff ready team. Bibby's contract got bought out by Washington after he got traded as part of the deal that brought Kirk Hinrich to Atlanta. New New York Knick forward Corey Brewer is also near gaining a buy-out from the team.
Uprise in Motown: A group of the Detroit Pistons, admitted the shoot-around before the game purposefully on Friday. Rodney Stuckey, Austin Daye, and Chris Wilcox all were absent from the shoot-around. Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, and Tracy McGrady missed the shoot-around due to injury or other family matters. Detroit is 22-39 on the year, 5 1/2 games from eighth in the eastern conference and a playoff berth.
Parker out: San Antonio guard Tony Parker is out 2-4 weeks after straining his calf muscle in Sunday's victory over Memphis. Parker collided with Memphis guard Mike Conley in the game. The Spurs are not used to injury this season, riding a wave of good health to a 49-10 record, tops in the NBA.
Howard, Martin named players of the week: Kevin Martin and Dwight Howard on Monday were named the best players this week. Howard of the Orlando Magic, averaged 33 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Martin from Houston went averages of 27 points, and five rebounds. The guard is on a streak of 30 or more points, three straight games.
