NBA Mid-Season Awards

MVP: Tough choice here. So many good players in the league who are very valuable to their team. You could go many different ways with this choice. Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, even Lebron James, with all his lack of being smart, is a viable option. Based off what the player means to his respective team, I gotta go with Stoudemire. Averaging 26 points, second in the league and nine rebounds, Stoudemire earned the award. New York after a great start for the season, has fallen a bit in the Eastern Conference as their schedule grew tougher, remain at 22-20.
Rookie of the Year: A runaway winner with Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers. Teaming with guard Eric Gordon, Griffin has the Clippers poised for a playoff run, though they will likely fall just short this season. The 21-year old is averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Clippers who are 16-26 on the year.
Coach of the Year: Another runaway winner here Gregg Popovich from San Antonio. The Spurs are at 37-6 on the season, and have been on a tear all season. They are in midst of a eight-game winning streak right now even. Power forward Tim Duncan is getting older and not having the same significance he used to on games. So Poppovich went and changed the team around, making the Spurs offense more guard oriented with Manu Ginoboli, and Tony Parker being the main guys on offense. The Spurs are on pace to get more then 70 wins this year.
Most Improved Player: Forward Kevin Love wins this award as he has significantly improved his scoring and rebounding. Minnesota only has ten wins on the year, but Love is playing out of his mind. Averaging 21 points and 16 rebounds, the forward is almost a one-man team. At least the Timberwolves have someone to build around if they can keep him.
Sixth Man Award: Like the MVP award, this award has many different avenues you can take. Jason Terry, Glen Davis, Jamal Crawford, guys who fill it up off the bench. I got to go with Davis, just edging out Terry. The forward from LSU, averages 13 points and five rebounds per game for the Celtics who are the best in the East.
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, wins this award yet again. Three straight seasons, the center has taken it. His defense can change the way opposing teams attack the basket. Getting him in foul trouble is key to get interior offense going for his opponents. Orlando is 28-15, with an ever changing roster, but Howard is the one stalwart. The team would be lost without him.
