NBA Deal to be decided on Monday?
November 14th 2011 00:15
The NBA players association will meet and discuss a proposal sent to them by the owners on Thursday of last week tomorrow. Many of the players have yet to see the actual proposal, while reporters on ESPN are already claiming the deal will get shot down.
The NBA wants a 72-game season to still be played, for this to happen a deal will need to be in place this week. Key points as part of the new deal from owners are:
A proposed 50-50 rate on total revenue.
The mid-level exception can be still made. Payrolls will be 85 percent of salary cap in 2011 and 2012 then 90 percent in 2013.
Luxury rates would be put into play in the third year of the deal and maximum contract lengths could go no higher then five years.
And an amnesty clause will be available for a team to cut one player before the season and have his salary removed from the teams cap.
