NBA deadline day trades
February 25th 2011 00:05
Boston traded center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City for forward Jeff Green and Nenad Kirstic. Big move for both teams. Perkins was underachieving for the Celtics, maybe all he needed was a change of scenery. Green will prove to be a valuable backup or starter if needed.
Boston traded center Seimah Urden and forward Luke Harongody to Cleveland for a second-round pick. Neither Urden and Harongody did too much this year.
Oklahoma City dealt guard Morris Petersen and forward D.J. White to Charlotte for Nazr Mohammed. The Thunder really went for the big guys, first Perkins and now Mohammed. Petersen takes over the spot Wallace left.
Portland traded center Joel Pryzbilla, forward Dante Cunningham, center Sean Marks and two first-round picks to Charlotte for forward Gerald Wallace. Surprising move for the Blazers who seemed to be content with the roster. Giving up Pryzbilla, Cunningham, and two-first round picks is a too much for Wallace. The swingman from Charlotte is averaging 16-points and eight-rebounds per game.
Houston moved guard Aaron Brooks to Phoenix for guard Goran Dragic and a first-round pick. The Rockets have given up on the year, getting Dragic and a first-round pick are huge for the roster. Brooks will be a valuable player for the Suns. Either by teaming with Steve Nash or bringing him off the bench. Brooks is a expiring contract and has had problems with Head Coach Rick Adelman, this season after being named the NBA's most-improved player last year.
Houston traded forward Shane Battier and guard Ish Smith to Memphis for center Hasheem Thabett and a first-round pick. The Grizzlies wanted someone to take over the spot forward Rudy Gay played on the starting lineup. Battier is a solid replacement. Thabeet is another guy who needed a change of scenery. He may prove to be a steal.
Los Angeles Clippers dealt guard Baron Davis and 2011 first-round pick to Cleveland for guard Mo Williams and forward Jamario Moon. Neither team doing too much this year, needed to switch things up. Davis returns to play for Head Coach Byron Scott. The two clashed during their time together in New Orleans. This move cuts the salary cap down for the Clippers who want to attract a free agent to play with Blake Griffin. Good move for both teams. The Cavs may have issues for the rest of the year, but getting a high first-round choice helps out matters.
Atlanta traded guard Mike Bibby and guard Jordan Crawford and forward Maurice Evans and a 2011 first-round pick to Washington for guard Kirk Hinrich and center Hilton Armstrong. Good trade for the Hawks. They needed to get younger if they want a chance in the playoffs. Hinrich is five-years younger then Bibby. Dealing Evans and Crawford may hurt their bench play. Washington just wanted more youth and got this.
