Michigan hires Brady Hoke
January 11th 2011 23:05
One day after it was reported LSU coach Les Miles would accept the Michigan job if offered, the Wolverines went with San Diego State coach Brady Hoke. Miles at the last minute decided to stay put at the SEC school instead of jumping into the Big-10 and taking on the job of his alma mater. Miles has a record of 62-17 at LSU and a national championship in 2007. The Tigers whipped Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl last Friday.
Hoke spent 1995-2002 on the Michigan staff as an defensive line coach, helping make the Wolverines rushing defense amongst the best during his time there.
Hoke graduated from Ball State in 1982, he returned in 2003 to coach for five seasons, before jumping to the Mountain West and San Diego State. The Aztecs improved immensely after a down 2009, saw the team only win four games. This season, the Aztecs went 9-4.
Hoke bounced around after graduating Ball State. He was an assistant at Grand Valley State, Western Michigan, Toledo, and Oregon State before his Michigan defensive line job. 28 years of coaching has earned Hoke an attempt to turn out Michigan. His first job will be talking quarterback Denard Robinson into staying in school and not testing out the NFL.
