McNabb Benched
December 18th 2010 01:32
What a day for Donovan. Washington Redskins have benched the six-time pro bowler in favor of Rex Grossman. The same Rex Grossman who lost the starting job to Kyle Orton in Chicago. Why do the Redskins make this decision at this point in the season?
Washington is 5-8 overall and can't make the playoffs even if they win their final three games of the season. Washington coach Mike Shanahan has struggled to keep his name from being blasted this season. First off benching McNabb against Detroit earlier this season. Then the Albert Haynesworth saga and now this. This move could be the end of McNabb at Washington.
The Redskins earlier on this season gave McNabb a contract over five years for $78 million. The only guarantee was $3.5 million he would receive this year. The Redskins can and will cut McNabb before next season and won't have to pay him another cent.
McNabb is having his worst year of his career totaling 15 interceptions thus far in the season and one of the leagues worst quarterback ratings of 77.1. He has completed 275 passes out of 472 for 3377 yards and 14 touchdowns. Grossman's career numbers are 33 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. He took Chicago to the 2006 Super Bowl where they lost to Seattle.
