Mark Jackson hired at Golden State as Head Coach

The Golden State Warriors hired Mark Jackson to be their new head coach on Monday. Instead of opting for a proven head coach, Golden State went for an ex-player who is working as a color commentator for ABC. Jackson is paired with Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy for the NBA Finals.
Jackson doesn't have any coaching experience. Though you could say he served as a coach on the court for the New York Knicks while he was there. This is not the same thing though, and Jackson is due to have some growing pains with the job. Golden State hired Mark Malone away from New Orleans to provide Jackson with a proven assistant in the NBA.
The former point guard played for five Hall of Fame coaches during his playing days. Those include Lou Carnescca while at St. Johns, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan, Pat Riley, and Larry Brown.
Golden State finished 36-46 this last season. They have bright spots on the roster including Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry. The Warriors do need to bring on some toughness up front to help with the great guards. Golden State brought on former player and general manager for the Los Angeles Lakers, Jerry West to be a team consultant. Things are looking up for the Warriors, though things will take time.
