Lions win on the road and other craziness

December 20th 2010 00:57
Detroit accomplished something Sunday they haven't since 2007, winning a road game. 26 straight road losses have preceeded this victory. Detroit won at Tampa Bay, 23-20 in overtime. This victory all but knocks Tampa Bay out of playoff contention and gives the Lions there fourth win of the year. Maurice Morris, a Seahawk castoff was the star of the game for Detroit, gaining 109 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown. He had two key runs in the overtime drive for the Lions. Tampa Bay is 8-6 on the season after the loss.

Philadelphia rallied back from being down 31-10 with 7:28 on the clock to win 38-31 over the Giants! What happened to the Giants defense and special teams down the stretch? Crazy how Michael Vick all of a sudden turned on the jets in the fourth with the game on the line. Vick accounted for the first three touchdowns of the rally to tie the game up at 31. Then came another Giants punt due to inept offense instead of kicking the ball away from Eagles speedster Desean Jackson, Giants punter Matt Dodge kicked it directly to him. After bobbling the ball, he broke free for an 65 yard touchdown with the usual showboating at the end. Philadelphia swept the season series with the Giants, taking over control of the NFC East division.

Atlanta clinched a playoff spot thanks to the Giants loss. After knocking off Seattle, 34-18, the Falcons now host New Orleans next Monday. The Saints lost a heartbreaker to Baltimore 30-24, pushing them to 10-4, two games behind the 12-2 Falcons. The Ravens win coupled with the Pittsburgh Steelers loss to New York moves the AFC South division back to a tie with the teams knotted at 10-4. Only two teams, just the Falcons and New England Patriots have clinched a playoff spot with two weeks left making for some interesting games left to be played.

Important games when looking ahead at next weeks schedule include the Monday nighter and the Jets at Chicago. Another key game which is odd considering the records of the two teams, 5-9 and 6-8,pits the Rams versus San Francisco. The Rams lost bad against Kansas City while the 49ers didn't show up against San Diego, Thursday night. Seattle, the other team in the battle for the NFC West, hosts Tampa Bay.

The best game to me was that Panthers and Cardinals game. I love me a good stupid bowl, and I got one. I took something very important out of that game. Clausen did a much better job of protecting the ball against a good Cards pass defense. I feel like the real problem is surrounding Smith with a playmaker. Trade down and get AJ Green is my answer.
