Luol Deng swatted away a last-second shot by Kobe Bryant preserving Chicago's one-point win over Los Angeles, 88-87. Derrick Rose banked in a fading shot, over the outstretched arms of Lakers center Pau Gasol, pushing Chicago up by one with 4.5 seconds left.
The Lakers had a 82-71 lead with 3:44 left on the clock, before things began to turn. Deng scored 21 points, keying the teams rally in the end. The small-forward out of Duke, scored nine of the Bulls final 17 points in the game. His defensive prowess also proved vital in the end. Rose, last years MVP for the league, led Chicago with 22 points. Bryant scored 28 for the Lakers. Gasol contributed 14, playing in the center position for Andrew Bynum who is suspended for the first four games of the season.
Chicago takes the court again today at Golden State, a team who lost to the LA Clippers, 105-86 on Sunday. The Lakers play the next two nights, starting at Sacramento before hosting Utah tomorrow night in the first of back-back-back games for any team this year.
