Las Vegas Bowl Preview
December 21st 2010 04:46
Boise State kicker Kyle Brotzman lined up to take the kick with the score knotted up at 31, after Nevada had just scored. Time was ticking off the clock but the senior who had been here before would surely not be rattled. Heck the kick was just a little longer then an extra point. The snap and hold were perfect, just not the kick which sailed to the left. Brotzman had a chance to redeem himself in the overtime, only again the same result, a missed kick. With this loss to Nevada, Boise State now has to settle for a Las Vegas Bowl appearance and a game versus Utah.
Boise State (11-1) has a ton to prove but will the team get pumped up for this bowl? Coach Chris Petersen was outcoached in the game against Nevada. This does not happen often. He has a coach on the field in quarterback Kellen Moore who finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy award voting. Moore threw for 33 touchdowns on the season and will be looking to add to this total. Running back Doug Martin has rushed for 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Boise State can beat you with the both the pass and run.
Utah(10-2) comes into the game on a slide. After jumping out to an 8-0 mark and the sixth ranking, Utah lost consecutive games to TCU and Notre Dame. The Utes didn't just lose to TCU, they got demolished. 47-7. This game exposed the Utes shoddy defense. Utah has a solid offense with Jordan Wynn at quarterback and two running backs over 500 yards in Eddie Wide and Matt Asiata. The lack of a strong defense could spell doom for Utah.
Look for big numbers from Boise State and Moore in his final collegiate game. Utah may keep it close for a half before bowing out and getting blown out.
