Kuester out at Detroit
June 6th 2011 18:35
On Sunday night, the Detroit Pistons fired head coach John Kuester. The coach had a record of 57-107 while at Detroit, including 30-52 this past season. Detroit has a new owner in place, John Gores as he bought the franchise from Karen Davidson this past week. Gores decided to keep team President John Dumars, but not Kuester.
The past two seasons for the Pistons have been full of downers, including a rash of injuries to star players like Richard Hamilton, Rodney Stuckey and Ben Wallace. Detroit improved by three games in Kuester's second season but that was not enough to warrant an extenstion. Too many off the court distractions this past season kept Detroit in the news.
Hamilton, one of the last remaining links from Detroit's last championship team in 2004, had issues with Kuester's keeping him on the bench. Stuckey also had issues with Kuester and his shuffling the roster around to play other players. The team only played five players versus Philadelphia back in February due to guys being suspended or injured.
Kuester lost control of this team, and now with a new owner in place things should look up for this once proud franchise. Detroit has solid pieces in place for a bright future including forward Greg Monroe, and Austin Daye, plus the eighth pick in the upcoming NBA Draft to work with. Veterans like Hamilton, and Tayshaun Prince should return to aide the new coach. There are solid canidates available for Detroit including Rick Adelman, Brian Shaw, and former Pistons head coach Mike Woodson.
