Is Dallas losing their touch?
April 8th 2011 23:09
The Mavericks are on a four-game losing streak, one that may send them to the fourth place in the West. Oklahoma City is hot on the Mavericks tracks, just one game behind. Dallas has a record of 53-25, though they have hit a snag, at the wrong time. Well you could say the Lakers have lost three straight, maybe four tonight against the Blazers, but their losses are not as detrimental. The Lakers are locked into the second seed, while Dallas is not at the third seed.
The slide began last Thursday when the Lakers embarassed Dallas at the Staples Center. Jason Terry in a frustrated state pushed Steve Blake to the ground, earning an ejection, giving the game some excitement. Dallas lost, 110-82. Golden State and Portland then beat Dallas on consectutive nights on the road, with both games ending up on the scoreboard closer then they really were. Two days later on Wednesday, Dallas dropped another at home to Denver, 104-96.
Dallas is hosting the Clippers tonight, which should result in a victory for the team but Jason Kidd will sit the game out. Games with Phoenix, Houston, and New Orleans make up the remainder of the schedule. Dallas has the people to win all three, and end with 57 wins, thus earning that third spot in the West. Still up in the air who Dallas will face in the first round, with Portland ahead of New Orleans by a half-game for the spot.
Looking ahead at other key games this weekend, Sunday has a full litter of great games with playoff implications. Here's a rundown of the games.
Chicago at Orlando- The Bulls aim to continue their run in the East.
Boston at Miami- Second place in the East up for grabs, teams locked in a tie.
New Orleans at Memphis- Teams jockeying for position with Portland in the sixth through eighth spots in the West.
New York at Indiana- The Knicks are on a five-game winning streak, have a chance to pass Philadelphia for the sixth spot in the East.
Phoenix at Dallas- Mavs should win and continue to roll after a rough week.
Oklahoma City at Los Angeles Lakers- Can the Lakers end their losing streak if Portland beats them today against one of the hottest teams in the league?
