Independence Bowl Preview
December 27th 2010 01:33
Georgia Tech and Air Force are both widely known for their running games. Both teams feature a triple-option attack. This will be a very slow moving game if you choose to watch it before Monday night football. Whichever gets to that 300-yard rushing mark first will win.
Georgia Tech (6-6) struggled mightily this season, a year after making it to the Orange Bowl. Right from the start of the season, the Yellow Jackets were not the same team from last season. Losing quarterback Joshua Nesbitt to an broken arm, November 4th changed the outlook of the season. Backup quarterback Tevin Washington, is not the same player Nesbitt is. Still, Georgia Tech averaged 327 yards a game on the ground, tops in the nation. Running back Anthony Allen paces the Yellow Jackets with 1,227 yards on the season. Coach Paul Johnson, formerly of Navy knows Air Force really well from those days. This could be an advantage.
The Falcons of Air Force arrive with a new lease on life after a slow start this season. Winners of three straight games, including 35-20 over UNLV to cap the season at 8-4, moves the Falcons to the role of favorite here. Air Force is second in the nation, averaging 317 yards per game on the ground. Quarterback Tim Jefferson is the leader of the team. The Junior leads the team with 15 touchdowns rushing and 789 yards on the ground. Asher Clark is tops on the team with just over a 1000 yards rushing.
All signs point to the Falcons winning this game. Georgia Tech needs somphomore Washington to grow up big time here. Don't see it happening, Air Force continues a late season dominance with the win.
