December 7th 2010 01:05
Next Saturday night the top four players in college football this season will meet in New York. All four have bowl games yet to be played this season, but before then will vie for the Heisman Trophy. Cam Newton, LaMichael James, Kellen Moore, and Andrew Luck all will be on hand.
Newton is considered the frontrunner for the award, is the quarterback for the top-ranked Auburn Tigers. Newton threw for 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns. He added 1,409 yards on the ground with 20 more touchdowns. His only downfall is the controversy regarding his father. Cecil Newton attempted to get money from Mississippi State just to have Cam enroll and play football there.
James on the year has rushed for 1,682 yards as the running back for the second-ranked Oregon Ducks. James has 21 touchdowns for the Ducks and has averaged 152 yards a game, the most of any running back this season.
Luck is the starting quarterback for the fourth-ranked Stanford Cardnial. Luck is expected to be the top pick in next years NFL Draft. Before then, he will lead Stanford to the Orange Bowl and a matchup with Virginia Tech. Luck has thrown for 3,051 yards and 28 touchdowns for the 11-1 Cardnial.
As the starting quarterback for Boise State Moore has a record of 37-2. He has led the team to an 11-1 mark this year, the only blemish against Nevada. Moore has thrown for 3.500 yards and 33 touchdowns for the Broncos who face Utah in the MAACO Bowl December 22nd.
