Hawks shock the Magic and other games today

Atlanta came out and stole the homecourt away from Orlando today, 103-93. The Magic struggled throughout as they failed to pull out the win despite Dwight Howard's 46 points and 19 rebounds. Point-guard Jameer Nelson scored 27 points to aide Howard. No other Magic player scored in double figures as Hedo Turkoglu and Gilbert Arenas only got six points. Orlando didn't have any other help in the game as the Hawks put together the more complete team effort. Joe Johnson scored 25, and fellow guard Jamal Crawford chipped in with 23 points. Atlanta fought off a furious Orlando rally in the third quarter with one of their own, en route to a controlling 17-point lead at 71-54. The Magic couldn't recover. Game two is Tuesday night in Orlando.
The Eastern Conference saw two surprises in addition to the Hawks victory as Indiana and Philadelphia kept their games close. Chicago went into the locker room at halftime down five points to the Pacers. The Bulls after trailing by ten, 98-88 late in the fourth quarter came back with a 16-1 run to grab the lead. They never let up in winning, 104-99. MVP probable winner Derrick Rose scored 39 points in the win. Luol Deng scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bulls. North Carolina alumni Tyler Hansborough scored 22 points in the loss, and Danny Granger added 24 points. The Pacers proved something to everyone who felt this series was going to be a sweep by hanging around here, even leading for most of the way! Game two is Monday night.
Miami built a large lead in their victory over Philadelphia, only to see it evaporate down the stretch. The 76ers lost 97-89, though it should of been worse. The 76ers actually jumped out to a 12-lead after the first quarter, though Miami rebounded quickly taking the lead into the second half. A commanding 13-point lead by the Heat in the fourth quarter died with a 12-0 run from the 76ers. Miami though fought this run off en route to the win. Chris Bosh led the Heat with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Lebron James scored 21 points and 14 rebounds. Thaddeus Young scored 20 points and got 11 rebounds for the 76ers. Game two is Monday night.
The final game of the day pits Dallas against the Blazers. Portland after holding an early lead over Dallas lost their luster when the bench came to spell the starters. The Mavericks took control of the game in the second quarter, and now hold a ten-point halftime lead. Portland needs more bench production to make this a good series. The starters can't do it all. Things better change soon here.
