December 24th 2012 00:38
On Christmas Eve, the yearly installment of the Hawaii Bowl takes place. This year, Fresno State (9-3) takes on SMU (6-6).
SMU thanks to a huge win over Tulsa in the league's final game of the season, improved to .500 and now have the ability to play in a bowl game. Fresno State has won five in a row including a 48-15 win over Air Force in the season finale.
Fresno State is led by quarterback Derek Carr, the younger brother of previous Bulldogs quarterback David, who moved onto the NFL. Derek has passed for 36 touchdowns and 3,742 yards on the season. Senior back Robbie Rouse has rushed for 1,468 yards, making the offense very balanced. Carr's top receiver is Davante Adams who has caught 89 passes. The Bulldogs defense has given up just 22 points on average this season.
SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert has passed fro 2,720 yards and 14 touchdowns. The quarterback also has 13 interceptions. SMU does have a worthy running back in Zach Line. The senior has rushed for 1,207 yards and 12 touchdowns.
This game has blowout written all over it. Fresno State has overwhelmingly the better players on both sides of the ball. SMU will need to put the ball in Line's hands to keep this game close. The Bulldogs take it.
