Hawaii Bowl Preview
December 23rd 2010 01:16
Hawaii(10-3) comes into this game as the home favorite. Tulsa (9-3) arrives as no slouch, considering their record this season. This Christmas Eve showcase will be one not for the faint of heart as points will be scored in bunches.
Hawaii is led by Bryant Moniz who has 4,629 yards on the season and 36 touchdowns. He leads the country in total offense with 361.9 yards of offense per game. The Hawaii offense averages about 40 points per game which is good due to a bad defense. Two big name receivers in Greg Silas and Kiohala Piorares are Moniz's favorite targets. A solid running back in Alex Green and you have the country's eighth best offense.
Tulsa counters with the fifth ranked offense. The team averages just below Hawaii with 39.7 points per game, due in large part to quarterback G.J. Kinne who 3,307 yards this season. He averages 322 yards per game, good for fourth individually in the country. Kinne leads the team in rushing with 557 yards and 15 touchdowns. Damaris Johnson is Kinne's favorite target with 53 catches for 771 yards.
Neither team's defense has been known to stop the opposing team this year. But both teams have the ability to get the turnover, which could be key as the offenses are so high powered. Hawaii safety Mana Silva is tied for the nation's best with eight interceptions on the season. Tulsa as a team have 19 interceptions on the season. Look for Hawaii to win the shootout as the first team to reach fifty points. Tulsa will score to keep pace but bow out in the end.
