Harbaugh Remains in California
January 7th 2011 23:33
Only four days after his Stanford Cardnial defeated Virginia Tech, 40-12 in the Orange Bowl, Jim Harbaugh has decided to coach the San Francisco 49ers and make himself the second Harbaugh in the NFL. His older brother, John coaches at Baltimore. Harbaugh signed an 5-year, 25 million dollar deal. The move will enable the 47-year old to stay in the bay area.
Harbaugh went 57-20 in the college ranks, including 29-21 at Stanford. He turned an team which was 1-11, before he came into a national player in four years. Harbaugh follows the great Bill Walsh who did the same career path, going from Stanford to San Francisco. This move comes after quarterback Andrew Luck pledged to stay another year at Stanford. Now I wonder if he wishes he could take it back.
Harbaugh who played at Michigan, while at school and 15 seasons in the NFL, comes back. His coaching career started at Oakland, then a stint at San Diego University, before Stanford.
San Francisco went 6-10 this season. Before the year began, many projected the 49ers to be the team to beat in the NFC West, only quarterback struggles led to an down season. Now Harbaugh will get to try and make something out of Alex Smith, whom San Francisco made the top pick six years ago.
