Friday's Pre-season openers

August 12th 2011 02:19
So nice to see football back on the television even if it is preseason! Right away a rule change is stealing away from the game. Having the placekickers kick the football off at the 40-yard line is hurting the game. It takes away the excitement of seeing a returner take the football back.

Friday's Preseason Openers:

Pittsburgh at Washington: Rex Grossman claims the Redskins can win the NFC East division! Who is he kidding? Washington will be lucky not to finish in last place in the division. Pittsburgh lost out on Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress, now they stay with Hines Ward as the number one guy. Ward had a rocky off-season that had its highs and lows. Ben Roethlisberger also had a decent off-season in getting married.

Miami at Atlanta: The Dolphins have a new running back in Reggie Bush but the same old quarterback in Chad Henne. Rumors were circulating about Brett Favre coming back to play for the Dolphins. Doesn't seem likely. Atlanta brought in Julio Jones as another target for Matt Ryan and Ray Edwards to become the sacking machine the Falcons need. Atlanta should win here in a washout.

Cincinnati at Detroit: Both teams have issues which need to be addressed. Detroit losing backup running back Mikel Leshoure hurts the teams ability to move the football. Jahvid Best is a good running back, but he is brittle as well. Matthew Stafford is injury prone also. The Bengals after Carson Palmer chose not to return to the team, leaves a hole at the quarterback position. Andy Dalton will get the first shot at taking over.

Tampa Bay at Kansas City: The Chiefs made it back to the playoffs last year and Tampa Bay nearly did the same. Now both teams will get a chance to improve upon this success. Kansas City has a great offensive lineup with two strong running backs in Thomas Jones and Jamal Charles. Tampa Bay counters with Josh Freeman as the young gunslinger and LeGarrette Blount running the ball.

San Fransisco at New Orleans: John Harbaugh's first game as a NFL head coach. He inherits a team which needs lots of help. Alex Smith will likely be benched before long as the quarterback and Troy Smith is not the answer. Colin Kaeprndick is the 49ers quarterback of the future if they don't just fall apart all the way to get Andrew Luck next year in the draft. New Orleans returns one of the best in Drew Brees and a solid team all across the board.
