Former Oregonian named All-Star
February 5th 2011 03:13
Yesterday, I posted how it was an travesty not having Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge on the All-Star team. He deserves it much more then a couple of the guys who were named. Today thanks to Yao Ming being injured, former Oregonian high school great Kevin Love was named to the team by NBA commissioner David Stern. Love deserves the chance to play with the NBA's great. He has shown that scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds per game. His only downfall, being on a bad team. Minnesota Timberwolves are last in the West with 11 wins in 48 games.
Love, joins Tim Duncan, Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitski, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, Pau Gasol, and Manu Ginoboli, as reserves for the Western Conference.
Lake Oswego, Oregon was where Love played his high school basketball. Him and Duke's Kyle Singler went head to head in two straight high school championships. Love won the title as a junior in the matchup with Singler's South Medford team. Singler got the last laugh, getting the win as a senior over Love. As an senior at Lake Oswego, Love averaged 28 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists. He spurned both Oregon schools and went to UCLA. After one season as an Bruin, Love jumped to the NBA.
Love improved immensely over the previous season as an rookie. His improvement came as an result of Minnesota trading starting forward Al Jefferson to Utah. This paved the way for Love to get minutes, and thus become an front-runner for the NBA's Most Improved Player.
