The Washington Wizards have fired head coach Flip Saunders. Saunders and the Wizards were 2-15 on the season. He had a record of 51-130 while at Washington.
Saunders was in the third year of a four year contract worth $18 million. Randy Wittman will take over as interim head coach. Wittman coached previously at Minnesota where he posted a 100-207 record.
Saunders coached for Minnesota and Detroit previously. He has a career record of 638-526.
The Wizards have some talented pieces including point guard John Wall who was the top pick two seasons ago. Wall is having a down season compared to last year. The Wizards also have power forward Andray Blatche and forward Rashard Lewis. Saunders has struggled putting it all together this season, making the dismissal a necessity.
