Final regular season week in college football
December 5th 2010 22:11
As his team just defeated Oregon State, 37-20, Oregon coach Chip Kelly was asked what he thought of an potential matchup with Auburn. In return he asked how they were doing with South Carolina. The reply: 42 to 14, Auburn in the 2nd half. Then he went about talking about how the Ducks will look at the films of Auburn and Cam Newton in preparation for an January 10th showdown. Two of the final three unbeaten teams fighting for the national title. TCU, the other unbeaten will likely travel to Pasadena to face Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
Oregon State played Oregon about as well as anyone has this season during their 12-0 run. The Beavers scored the first touchdown of the game to take an early lead which the Ducks soon took back. The Beavers will be back next year with avengance but for now this is the Ducks run as they took the game over en route to the victory.
Auburn easily defeated South Carolina, 56-17. Wasn't even a game. I for one, thought the Gamecocks would of come out harder. The likely Heisman Trophy winner, Newton threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns, while running for 73 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and Connecticut all earned their conferences automatic bid to the BCS games. The Sooners defeated Nebraska, 23 to 20, to win the final Big-12 conference title, and will go to the Fiesta Bowl. Connecticut won the Big East title thanks to a late 52-yard field goal to knock off South Florida, 19-16. UConn will travel to Arizona to face Oklahoma. Virginia Tech won their 11th straight game in the ACC title by defeating Florida State, 44-33 and will now travel to Miami and the Orange Bowl.
Later on today all these bowl games will finally be sorted out and finalized.
