Enes Kanter Player Profile
June 6th 2011 01:29
After the first two picks in the draft which figure to have Derrick Williams and Kyrie Irving selected, nobody knows how the rest will go. Enes Kanter is projected to be the third choice based upon how athletic he is for a 6 ft. 11 in. frame. Kanter is a citizen of Turkey where he played professional basketball in 2008. Kanter committed to Kentucky but was ruled inelgible because of benefits he received. Had Kanter been able to play with the Wildcats this past season, they would of won it all. Instead, Kanter worked on his game for the right to play in the NBA.
Kanter didn't receive much playing time during his professional days in Turkey. He played in nine games during 2008, giving him exposure of fellow European leagues. Both Fenerbhance Ulker, where he played at and a team in Greece offered Kanter a contract for 2009, but he turned them down for a chance in USA.
The big-man was named the MVP in the Europe Under-18 Championship in 2009, where he averaged 19 points and 16 rebounds per game. Turkey won the bronze trophy in this tournament. Kanter moved onto Simi Valley, California to play one season of high school basketball. After this Kanter played in the Nike Hoop Summitt in Portland. He was named the International Player of the Game after scoring 34 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Now Kanter will get a chance to show his skills in the NBA after missing last season at Kentucky. We all missed out on what this big-man could do in college after receiving benefits. If Utah does in fact draft him, Kanter will get playing time right away. The Jazz have an adequate center in Al Jefferson, and a power forward who has great potential with Derrick Favors. Also throw in Paul Milsap, and the Jazz have options with their big men. Adding Kanter will improve them even more.
