Elgin Baylor scores a record 61 in 1962

Boston may be remembered for winning the 1962 NBA Finals over the Los Angeles Lakers, though one of the Lakers did all he could do. Elgin Baylor in game five scored 61 points and pulled down 22 rebounds. Baylor set a NBA Finals record with the 61 points. Not to be out-done Bill Russell totaled 40 rebounds in the same game.
The Lakers went onto win game five 126-121 at Boston Garden to grab a 3-2 series lead over the Celtics. Boston eventually won the series in seven games. Baylor scored 61 points with a tough defender on him all game by the name of Tom "Satch" Sanders. Only one other player in NBA history has topped Baylor's total of this night. Michael Jordan scored 63 points in a 1986 playoff game versus Boston. He needed two overtimes to score this many points. Baylor did his in regulation.
Baylor scored 22 field goals on the game, setting another NBA Finals record. Rick Barry tied this five seasons later. Baylor standing at just 6 ft. five in. scored all these points with the great Russell on the court.
Many players have tried to match Baylor's feat, though he still holds the record. This is one of the top playoff feats of all-time in NBA history. I will try and look more at these feats and NFL action until the two sides get their act together in the NBA labor dispute.
