East finals begin and game seven in OKC
May 15th 2011 04:17
Finally, a game seven is going to be played. Oklahoma City will host Memphis, with the winner moving onto face Dallas in the Western Conference Finals. Chicago in the night game hosts Miami in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Memphis led by a collective defensive effort shut down league scoring champion Kevin Durant in game six. Durant scored 11 points on the game, including only one basket during the final 45 minutes of the contest. Russell Westbrook did his best to keep the game close in scoring 27 points on 11-22 shooting. Durant's worst game in his young NBA career was the story of the night, now the forward has a chance for redemption.
Zach Randolph scored 30 points to lead the Grizzlies. He needs at least 30 more in game seven for the visitors to stand a chance. Another stellar effort from O.J. Mayo who started the game helped keep the Grizzlies in the playoffs. The former USC standout scored 16 points. Marc Gasol was shut down for the second straight game, only getting eight points. Kendrick Perkins's defense is a big reason why Gasol is struggling now. Don't see Perkins letting up either, putting more pressure on Randolph and the others to step up. The Thunder get Durant back in form and move onto the Western Finals after pulling away late in a close battle. Great playoffs from Memphis who will welcome back Rudy Gay next year, and look to continue this glory.
The league's MVP is ready for his toughest test yet in the playoffs. Derrick Rose will need to be up for a war with Miami here. Lebron James says don't expect too much points, since both teams are known for great defense. Miami lost all three contests versus Chicago during the regular season, by a combined eight points. This series here has six or seven games written all over it, and it is hard to see one team dominating the other.
Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and James all had Chicago on their short-list of destinations during the off-season, however each decided to go with the Heat. Pat Riley and Erik Spolestra had up and down seasons with the trio leading the way, now everything seems to be clicking. Miami took down Boston in five games, though things will be much more difficult with Chicago and the league's MVP. Miami can throw an array of defenders at Rose to slow him down, forcing the suppporting cast to step up. Chicago has the deeper bench of the two teams, but it hasn't yet showed up in the playoffs other then Taj Gibson who is making the most out of his limited minutes. Carlos Boozer needs to step up and slow down Bosh.
Look for the Bulls to feed off the home-court advantage early on in game one. Chicago with Luol Deng stepping up in the early going will have a lead at half-time. James and Wade take over in the third, pushing Miami up for a small advantage heading into the fourth. Rose and Kyle Korver who will step up in the second half, ignite a rally, once again with the home-fans assisting, pushes the Bulls to the win.
