Dallas hosts the Blazers and two in the East on Tuesday

April 18th 2011 23:23
Three games are on the docket for Tuesday's playoff action. New York versus Boston, and Dallas against Portland on TNT. The Orlando and Atlanta game is on NBA TV right after the first game kicks off on TNT. All three games had some great moments with two of them in particular going down to the wire. Orlando was surprised by a fiery Hawks team, as this was one of the few games where a team was soundly beaten. The other two games with Dallas and Boston hosting shall be similar to game one, with both teams fighting to the end.

Both four versus five seeded matchups in the West and East had the same game one storyline with the home team having two players doing the majority of the scoring. The only difference one team had a little more help. Jameer Nelson, and Dwight Howard combined for 73 points in the Magic's loss. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 72 of the Thunder's 107 points in their win over Denver.

Chances are here in game two, guys like Jason Richardson, Gilbert Arenas, Brandon Bass, and Hedo Turkoglu will play better, so don't expect a repeat of game one here. The Hawks got great production of Joe Johnson, and Jamal Crawford. The Magic don't have the defenders to slow this two, as the Hawks once again will get points from their shooters. Howard will once again have a big day for the Magic. Will this be enough? Orlando wins in a squeaker to tie the series.

Just when it appeared Boston was left to die, Carmelo Anthony went and bailed them out with his near airball as time ran out. Instead of going inside quicker to Amare Stoudemire, Anthony took an awkward shot that had no chance of going in. This was New York's chance of stealing one in Boston, as I don't see the Celtics letting them get another chance in game two. Stoudemire was the only player on either team who connected on over 50% of his field goals other then Jermaine O'Neal who went six for six. Stoudemire should expect to see more double teams from the Celtics. The Knicks will be missing Chauncey Billups adding more difficulty to the game. Boston wins as they pull away and grab a two game advantage in the series.

Portland had game one but let it slip away as the Mavericks shot a record high free throws in the fourth quarter. Dirk Nowitski connected on all 13 of his attempts despite Dallas only getting two second-half points in the paint. Coach Nate McMillian had something to say about this disparity, and got a $35 thousand dollar fine. Portland after grabbing a six-point lead with five minutes left, went cold as the Mavericks stormed back in winning the game. The Blazers failed to get much production from anyone other then LaMarcus Aldridge or Andre Miller. It didn't help matters much that Miller sat for most of the fourth quarter. Look for all of this to change as you can't keep Gerald Wallace down for too long. The former Charlotte Bobcat only scored eight points in game one. This figure should triple in game two. Marcus Camby played one minute in the fourth quarter after grabbing 17 rebounds in the first three quarters. He finished with 18, look for the veteran to once again dominate the boards.

Nowitski who was 7-20 from the field and the rest of the Mavericks had a terrible shooting night. Jason Kidd came up with one of his best games of the year as he kept them afloat during some of the rough patches. Kidd scored 24 points, most of them from behind the 3-point line. Portland weathers the storm and grabs the win here in game two with Aldridge leading the way in front of his hometown fans.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points in game one loss to Dallas

The Hawks strategy so far has been to use their strength. They want to use their defensive athleticism on the outside to cover the shooters. They'll let Howard do his thing, but they know that Howard alone cannot win this series.
