Conference finals scheduled for this weekend:
Patriot League on Friday.
Conference USA, Big East, Pac-10, Great West, Mideastern, MAC, Southland, Southwestern Atlantic, Big 12, WAC, American East, all on Saturday. Ivy League will have a one-game playoff between Harvard and Princeton for their automatic berth.
Big 10, SEC, ACC on Sunday before the brackets are unvieled.
Teams who have made the tournament: Arkansas Little-Rock, Belmont, Gonzaga, Butler, Indiana State, Morehead State, Old Dominon, Saint Peters, UNC-Asheville, and Wofford. Two more bids go out tonight with the Big Sky and NEC Conference finals. Arkansas Little-Rock last made it to the tournament in 1990, while Saint Peters hasn't advanced since 1995. All other teams have advanced within the decade.
Big East Awards:
Ben Hansborough of Notre Dame won the player of the year. Hansborough averaged 18.5 points for the Fighting Irish.
Head coach of Notre Dame, Mike Brey won coach of the year. Notre Dame is 25-5 on the year.
Newcomer of the year: Cleveland Melvin of DePaul. Averaged 14 points for the Blue Demons who finished last in the Big East.
Overton suspended for Pac-10 tournament: The Washington Huskies need a win or two just to get off the bubble and make the NCAA tournament. They will have to do so without senior guard Venoy Overton, who was suspended for the entire tournament. Overton was charged with providing alcohol to a minor. Overton had originally been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year old girl, those charges were dropped after the prosecutor determined the act was consenual. Overton averages six points, three rebounds, and three assists for the 20-10 Huskies.
