Calhoun suspended: Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun will be suspended for the first three conference games next season. The NCAA suspended him for failure to create an atmosphere of complaince. Connecticut was also cut scholarships, and now have recruiting restrictions in place. Connecticut has been under the eye of the NCAA since 2009 when a report of Josh Nochimson came out of him helping out a recruit with lodging, food, and transportation.
Like old times: The women's team at Connecticut took over the number-one spot, while Duke is tops in the men's polls. After a odd weekend of basketball saw the top four teams in the men's poll go down, it was only fitting Duke who was number-one at the beginning of the year, go back to the top spot. After a loss for the Baylor women, Connecticut reclaimed the top spot which it vacated after losing to Stanford.
Top big-man picks Arizona: Angelo Chol, from California's Hoover High School, committed to play next year at Arizona. The 6-8 forward from Sudan, is closing in on 2,000 career points at the school. He has led Hoover to four-straight Eastern Division championships. Chol's addition improves Arizona's recruiting class from 12th to eighth.
College of Charleston clinches: Bobby Cremin's team from Charleston clinched the Southern Conference's top spot after defeating Samford, 75-49 on Monday. The College of Charleston is 22-7 on the year, and clinched the conference's automatic bid to the NIT. Though, the NCAA tourney is Cremin's clubs hopeful choice.
