Volunteers Faltering: Tennessee has lost four out five games, dropping the team's record to 9-4 on the season. Coach Bruce Pearl only wants guys who promise to play defense to show up as the team takes on Memphis today, and SEC conference foes afterwards. Sunday's loss to College of Charleston highlighted the problem on the defensive side, as Tennessee gave up 91 points. Pearl hopes this changes soon. In accordance to an suspension, Pearl will miss the first eight games of SEC play, after tonights game.
8 Big East Teams: The new top 25, came out Monday. With no surprise Duke remained number one. Cincinnati debuted in the rankings at number 25. The Bearcats are the eighth team from the Big East in the poll. Villanova, Connecticut, Syracuse, Georgetown, Pitt, Louisville, and Notre Dame are also in the rankings. The Orangemen rank the highest at number four, winning all 15 games thus far.
ESPN Fires Announcer: Ron Franklin who doubled as a college basketball and college football announcer was fired Tuesday, after comments made to a female reporter. Franklin called sideline reporter Jeanine Phillips, "sweet baby". Phillips objected to the remark, and Franklin then used more language. ESPN fired Franklin after 23 years with the network.
Mississippi State Players Return: One month after a scuffle in the bleachers was widely viewed on ESPN, the two players involved are elgible once again. Elgin Bailey and Renardo Sidney can now return to the team. Bailey, a captain on the team, has been cleared to transfer after he put the request in. The scuffle occured after a game at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. Bailey averages 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Sidney averages 15.5 points for the 8-6 team.
