College Basketball games update
February 5th 2011 22:41
A good morning of basketball thus far with little upsets popping up. Though the morning has been uneventful.
24th-ranked Illinois rallied back from an early deficit, only to lose to Northwestern, 71-70. The Illini fell to 15-8 on the season, while Northwestern improved to 14-8. The other minor upset came from Baylor defeating Texas A&M, 76-74 in overtime. The Aggies who lost to Texas for the second time this year prior to Baylor, continue to struggle. Baylor had an good lead in the second half, 63-52, but let the Aggies get back into it. This win should get the Bears back on track this season.
UCLA and current head coach Ben Howland got a good win over St. Johns and coach Steve Lavin, 66-59. Lavin coached UCLA during the latter part of the 90's and early 2000, years. He had a great record of 145-78 while coach of the Bruins.
Butler got the season sweep of Cleveland State, dispatching the home team, 73-61. The Bulldogs went into the game on a three-game losing streak, so getting the win over Cleveland State was that much sweeter. Butler remains six games behind Cleveland State in the Horizion division.
Currently, one game is headed towards an upset. The Oregon Ducks are ahead of Washington, 58-50 with ten minutes left. Washington is coming off a loss to Oregon State on Thursday. A two game slide will certainly knock the Huskies out of the top-25, leaving Arizona as the only PAC-10 team in the polls. Arizona travels to Berkely to face California later tonight.
Tomorrow, prior to the Super Bowl, Minnesota hosts top-ranked Ohio State. This game is our best chance at another upset this weekend, as the ranked teams are hosting lesser competition both days.
