Chicago kicks off their second round action on Monday

May 2nd 2011 02:05
The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks begin their best of seven series tomorrow. Afterwards is game one of the LA Lakers and Dallas western conference series. Two games in the NBA today with Miami beating Boston 99-90, after breaking open a close game in the second half, and Memphis once again being Memphis and winning a game one on the opponents court. This time Oklahoma City is the victim. Zach Randolph two days after setting a career playoff high with 31 points in the Grizzlies series clinching victory over San Antonio, went for 34 against the Thunder. Him and Kevin Durant put on a duel for the ages. Durant scored 33 points for the Thunder in the 114-101 defeat.

Chicago head coach Tom Thibodeau was named the NBA's coach of the year after guiding the Bulls to a NBA best 62 wins. The Bulls had little trouble in the first round with Indiana, now they get the upstart Hawks who knocked off Orlando in a minor surprise. Chicago matches up better with Atlanta then Orlando did making this series that much more difficult for the Hawks. Derrick Rose is an upgrade over Orlando's Jameer Nelson.

The Hawks may not have Kirk Hinrich for the whole series after he injured his hamstring versus Orlando. The former Bull guard won't get a chance for any type of payback. Now as Atlanta searches for someone to step into the Chicago is licking their chops. Jeff Teague will likely get more minutes and Jamal Crawford may have to start. Chicago gets the win in game one.

Dallas showed in the first round series with Portland how they can actually play some good defense. But not having a solid shut-down defender who can stop Kobe Bryant will hurt the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitski averaged 27 points during the first round series with Portland. The Lakers can throw a number of different packages at the German national including Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. Jason Terry was huge of the bench and a big reason for the Mavericks success. He will need to be the same vocal point of the team versus the Lakers.

Los Angeles finally put together a good game against the Hornets in game six. After lacking intensity in game one and four, the Lakers left nothing in question. Now a much tougher test awaits in Dallas. Bryant should be able to garner at least 30 per game, as will Dirk. Which team's supporting cast steps up the most will decide who wins. Game one goes to the Lakers as Dallas has a hangover from their Portland series.
Kirk Hinrich will be missed by Atlanta versus Chicago
