The San Diego Chargers are free falling after a 4-1 start on the season. Chicago was the latest to pick on Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers as the Bears whipped San Diego, 31-20 on Sunday.
Chicago improved to 7-3 on the season, and kept pace with Detroit in the NFC North division right behind 10-0 Green Bay. The win over San Diego was the Bears fifth straight victory. Jay Cutler threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Rivers tossed for 280 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He is leading the league with 17 interceptions on the season. The lack of rushing game continues to haunt the Chargers. Ryan Matthews and Matthew Tolbert combined for 51 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Chicago's Matt Forte rushed for 59 yards himself on 21 carries.
In other action, the San Francisco 49ers won for the eighth straight time versus Arizona, 23-7. The win sets up a showdown on Thanksgiving night between 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Baltimore defeated Cincinnati, 31-28 to improve to 7-3 on the season.
Alex Smith threw for 267 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for the 49ers in the game. The Cardinals looked lost most of the game as evidenced by starting quarterback John Skelton's three interceptions. Yet the 49ers had issues scoring anything other then field goals in the early going of the game. The 49ers held the ball for almost 45 minutes of the game, and gained 431 total yards to 229 from Arizona.
There was one overtime game on the day between two NFC East division foes. Dallas beat Washington, 27-24 to improve to 6-4. This was the Redskins sixth straight loss after starting the season 3-1. The Cowboys were paced by quarterback Tony Romo's 292 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Redskins played well for most of the game, including a late touchdown drive engineered by quarterback Rex Grossman. Wide receiver Dante Stallworth caught the game-tying touchdown with 14 seconds left in regulation time. Cowboys placekicker Dan Bailey finished the game with a 39-yard field goal after Redskins kicker Graham Gano missed a 52-yarder earlier in the overtime.
