January 29th 2011 01:04
Sunday afternoon brings an possible NBA finals preview with Boston traveling to face the Los Angeles Lakers. Both teams enter the game on a roll. Though each team has an tune-up, Friday with Boston taking on Phoenix and the Lakers versus Sacramento. Both teams should take care of business and head into this game, Sunday on a winning streak.
Boston after knocking off Portland last night is 35-10 on the season, winning games with great defense, and opportunistic scoring. The Blazers fought hard for three quarters, but just didn't have the bodies to keep up with Boston last night, falling 88-78. Boston was able to rest their starters and put their deep bench to work versus the Blazers, saving them for Phoenix. The so- called big three remain, but with two new members in Rajon Rondo and Shaquille O'Neal. O'Neal plans to return after a few games off with the normal aches and pains of being 38 years old, and 7 foot-3.
Los Angeles remains Kobe Bryant's team though with him getting older, and minutes going down, teammates have been asked to shoulder more of the load. The Lakers after a slow start have emerged as the second best team in the Western Conference at 33-13 on the season. Bryant averages 25 points and five assists, both numbers lead the team. He is in his 15th year, and has saw his minutes drop by five this season, from last. Other guys like Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, and Ron Artest have had to step up more this season. After struggling to accept this at first, the trio have embraced it now. The Lakers are streaking towards the top of the Western Conference now, about five games behind the San Antonio Spurs.
A tough road trip may beging to weigh heavy on the Celtics, by Sunday. Three games in four days is not an easy task, for an aging group of players. It was good for the team to rest up, last night to give the guys a better chance of lasting. Los Angeles has an much easier road going into the game Sunday. This and the fact, the Lakers need to make a statement after being obilterated Christmas Day versus Miami, will earn them a win, Sunday.
