Cavs set losing mark

Portland TrailBlazers defeated Cleveland, 111-105, to extend the Cavaliers losing streak to 24 games. 24 games! This loss set the an new NBA record for consecutive losses, bettering Vancouver's 1995 streak and Denver's 1997's. Hard to believe this team was once 7-9 on the season, now 8-43 on the year.
Wesley Matthews led the Blazers with 31 points, and LaMarcus Aldridge added 20. Cleveland guard Ramon Sessions nearly had an triple-double with 15 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
The Cavs didn't go down easily, largely due to Portland not putting them away like a good team would do. The first three quarters, neither team had an advantage over five points. At the start of the fourth quarter, Portland had an 86-83 advantage. Rudy Fernandez drained an three-pointer to give the Blazers an 101-94 lead, at the 5:35 mark of the game. After Matthews scored on a driving layup, the Blazers were up 103-94.
Then the Cavs began to chip away at the lead, and got their fans back into the game. Before the dust settled, Portland only held an 107-105 lead with 1:09 on the clock. As a Blazer fan, I have seen them drop many games like this. Not being able to put away the opponent and fall in the fourth quarter. You could smell the game going to Cleveland, and the losing streak ending. A former Cavalier, Andre Miller calmly knocked down a short jumper, with about an minute left, putting Cleveland's fire out.
Cleveland shot 52% for the game, while Portland made 54% of their shots. An impressive 12-19 from behind the three-point line, helped Portland get the victory. Matthews was 5-7 from beind the arc, while Nicholas Batum went 5-6.
Portland improved to 27-24 on the year, putting them a half-game up on Memphis for the eighth spot in the West. The Grizzlies are tied with Houston in the fourth, a win will keep them tied.
