Bruce Pearl to coach in the D-League?
August 3rd 2011 03:55
The Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Donn Nelson will interview former Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl on Thursday for the Texas Legends job. Pearl would replace former head coach Nancy Lieberman if he takes the job, which is near a sure-thing according to sources.
Pearl was fired at Tennessee after six seasons from unethical decisions he made while the head-man. For these violations, Pearl will be barred from college coaching. He was mentioned as a popular name to be a college basketball analyst. This job would pay Pearl more, so it is still up in the air if he wants to break back into coaching or the lucrative route.
If Pearl can get this job with the Legends, then he will be able to possibly move into the NBA if they ever get their act together. Pearl was a frontrunner as a new head coach at Maine after Austin Ainge was let go, but Maine went a different direction. Now the Legends are coming calling.
Former head coach Lieberman decided to move into the front office as an assistant general manager. She had the option of returning as a head coach but intstead opted the office route. Last season, Liebermann became the first women to coach a men's team affilated with the NBA. She took the Legends to the D-League playoffs.
