Blazers offer Greg Oden contract
June 30th 2011 01:05
The Portland TrailBlazers on Wednesday, one day before the current CBA agreement expires, offered Greg Oden an one-year contract of $8.8 million dollars. This deal makes Oden a restricted free agent, opposing teams can offer the center money, but Portland can match it. Portland also offered Patrick Mills a new deal, and exercised options on Luke Babbitt and Elliot Williams.
Oden has only played 82 games in three seasons since being drafted number one in 2007 over Kevin Durant. Oden finally began showing promise two seasons ago before injuring his kneecap and missing the rest of the season. He was averaging 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks as a starter for Portland. He missed all of last season after having a microfracture surgery on the knee.
Portland needs a center as Marcus Camby is the only other center on the roster. Keeping Oden in the fold enables Portland to give him one more chance and prevent him from becoming a possible all-star somewhere else. He is making great progress in rehabiltating the knee which was worked on. I can't wait for Oden to show what he can do on the court for one injury-free season. I do believe this season is coming up next year, once the players and owners can figure out a new agreement together to end a looming lockout.

The End Zone
We talked about this on my radio show last week. It seems like an awful lot of money for a guy who can't stay on the floor, and gets injured while only playing 24 minutes per game.
