Bibby to sign with Heat
March 2nd 2011 01:17
Former Atlanta Hawk and two games, Washington Wizard point guard Mike Bibby is very close to signing with Miami. The Heat released point guard Carlos Arroyo to clear up a roster space for Bibby. The former Arizona Wildcat is a proven winner and will give the Heat an adequate point guard for the first time this season.
Bibby clears waivers tomorrow making him elgible to sign a deal with the Heat. If he does sign with the Heat it will become his fifth NBA team in the 13 years in the league. Bibby started out with Vancouver before going to Sacramento and Atlanta. Bibby averaged nine points and four assists per game this year with the Hawks. These numbers are far lower then his career averages of 15 points and six assists. Bibby brings something to the Heat, that no player encompasses, playoff experience. Bibby has played in 80 career playoff games. He will be a big step-up from Arroyo or Mario Chalmers at the point guard position.
Other player news:
Troy Murphy spurned the Heat and signed with Boston. The forward from Notre Dame is coming off a career year that saw him score 15 points and ten boards per game with Indiana. This season has brought struggles Murphy's way. He was unable to get comfortable with the New Jersey Nets, only averaging four points and three rebounds in minimal action. Boston is hoping for the veteran to get back to last season's form. He will back up Kevin Garnett and Glen Davis.
New York Knicks officially released forward Corey Brewer, and signed Derrick Brown off waivers. Brewer, newly acquired from Minnesota had not played for the Knicks after being thrown into the Carmelo Anthony trade. Brown was just waived by Charlotte on Thursday. The forward averaged four points with the Bobcats.
The Washington Wizards also reached a buyout agreement of small forward Al Thornton. The forward was ruled expendable after the Wizards recently adding forwards Rashard Lewis and Mo Evans. Thornton averaged eight points per game for the Wizards, starting in 23 games this year.
