The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were turned down by Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on Monday, on Thursday, they chose a different college coach. Rutgers Greg Schiano was hired by the Buccaneers to lead their team.
Schiano posted a 48-47 record at Rutgers over 11 seasons. He made the Scarlet Knights a team to reckon with at the college level. Can this success transpire into the professional ranks? College coaches traditionally have struggled with the move, only a few have had success at the professional level. Schiano did coach with the Chicago Bears for two seasons before moving onto Rutgers.
Tampa Bay went 4-12 last season with Raheem Morris coaching. The team lost their last 10 games of the year, after starting 4-2. Tampa Bay nearly reached the playoffs for the 2010 season, after having a 10-6 record. Everything was going fine this year, until injuries hit the team. Josh Freeman will return as the quarterback next season.
