After the trade deadline news in NBA
March 17th 2011 00:33
The main players in the turbulent NBA trade-deadline dealing and how the teams are playing now.
New York: The Knicks are 6-6, after a three-game losing streak they are currently on. Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire are putting up tons of points together, just the team doesn't play much defense. Chauncey Billups is set to return after an injury, which will help.
Denver: The Nuggets are 8-2 after dealing Anthony. Just getting rid of the star forward and all the hoopla around him has re-energized this team. Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, and Danilo Gallanari have been good additions for the Nuggets who are tied for fifth in the West.
Portland: The Blazers are 5-4, since trading Joel Pryzbilla and Dante Cunningham for Gerald Wallace. The forward has been a great addition to the Blazers, in adding toughness and more intensity. Adding Marcus Camby and Brandon Roy both back from injury will propel the Blazers to a fifth spot in the West. They will overtake the Nuggets.
Charlotte: The Bobcats are 2-5 since dealing off Wallace. Charlotte lost the first five games without the forward, one of those was to Portland. The Bobcats and Stephen Jackson got revenge in beating the Blazers and ending this losing streak last Friday. Pryzbilla is currently injured, while Cunningham is getting minimal playing time for Charlotte who is in a battle for a playoff spot.
New Jersey: Who needs Anthony? The Nets were one of the main suitors for the former Nugget. Now they are on a five-game winning streak with Deron Williams leading the way. New Jersey is 5-3 since the trade for Williams. The Nets are 22-43 on the year, though optimism is high in New Jersey with Williams on the roster.
Utah: First head coach Jerry Sloan left, then the team traded Williams. Utah is 35-33 on the year, and 4-6 since dealing Williams off. Devin Harris has come in and played great for the Jazz who are transitioning with new head coach Tyrone Corbin. Derrick Favors just started for the first time this year, scoring 11 points in place of Paul Milsapp.
Los Angeles Clippers: The Clippers are 5-3 after their trade of Baron Davis for Mo Williams. The Clippers had a four-game winning streak including a win at Boston, before losing to New Jersey. Williams is the starting point guard for the Clippers who are 26-42 on the year. Williams and Clippers star Blake Griffin have had great cohesion together.
Cleveland: The Cavs are 1-6 since bringing in Davis in place of Williams. Cleveland's lone win was over New York. Davis has been the Cavs leading scorer since being brought in. He has missed the last two games after his grandma passed away. Cleveland is 12-53 on the year.
