A look at the Orange and Sugar Bowls

Orange Bowl: The third of the BCS Bowl games set to take place Monday evening. Stanford (11-1) versus Virginia Tech (11-2). The Hokies from Virginia after losing their first two games of the year, versus Boise State and James Madison, have rattled off 11 straight victories. The last victory over Florida State in the ACC title game earned the Hokies a spot in this bowl. Stanford is on a seven-game winning streak after losing to Oregon earlier this year. Quarterback Andrew Luck placed second to Cam Newton for the Heisman Trophy.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor makes the Hokies go. Either with his arm or legs, Taylor is the Hokies MVP. For the year, Taylor has 23 touchdown passes, and 2,521 passing yards. The quarterback is also the Hokies second leading rusher with 637 yards. Darren Evans leads the Hokies with 857 yards on the ground. The Hokies will be without backup running back David Wilson, and safety Antoine Exum for violating curfew in addition to the six backup players coach Frank Beamer sent home Sunday for rules violations.
Luck, the odds on-favorite to become the top pick in next years NFL Draft, has put up very impressive numbers this year. In completing 70 percent of his passes, Luck threw for 3,041 yards and 28 touchdowns. Luck is also a mobile quarterback, rushing for 438 yards. Senior receiver Doug Baldwin is Luck's favorite target going for 56 catches and nine touchdowns this year. Running back Stepfan Taylor just crossed the century mark with 1,023 yards rushing.
Stanford's loss to Oregon, exposed the Cardnial defense. Giving up 52 points to the Ducks who employ a smiliar offense to Virginia Tech is a sign of good things to come for the Hokies. Stanford has been a team on a mission who if Boise State had won out would not even be here. Virginia Tech's 11 straight wins is impressive, but the ACC is down this year, bringing this mark down. Stanford wins a thriller.
Sugar Bowl:The off the field turmoil surrounding Ohio State going into this game is sure to bring down the team. Ohio State(11-1) is set to play Arkansas (10-2) in the fourth of the BCS games. Ohio State was forced to suspend five players for five games next season, including star quarterback Terrell Pryor. All guys pledge to come back next season, oddly enough. Arkansas high powered offense promises to be a tough challenge.
Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, formerly of Michigan, knows the tradition of playing Ohio State. Mallet played against Ohio State in 2007, the year before he transferred to Arkansas. The quarterback was a pre-season favorite for the Heisman Trophy, had a year to marvel at. Mallet threw for 3,552 yards and 30 touchdowns for the Razorbacks. He is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in next years draft. Mallet's favorite target is Joe Adams who has 41 receptions on the year. Knile Davis went for 1,183 yards on the year on the ground.
Ohio State was part of a three way tie for first in the Big-10. The other two teams, Michigan State in a blowout, and Wisconsin in a classic, have gone down to defeat thus far in bowl games. The Big-10 as a conference has not done too well either with Michigan, Penn State, and Northwestern all going down. Even conference newcomer, Nebraska lost to Washington. Illinois earned a win though. All hope rests on the shoulders of Pryor to redeem the Big-10. Pryor has 2,551 yards passing on the year and 639 yards rushing. Dan Herron, one of the Buckeyes who was suspended, has rushed for 1,068 yards on the year.
The Buckeyes beat you with a great defense and just enough offense. Arkansas on the other hand, wins with a great offense, and enough defense. A game of strengths is on hand. Ohio State needs to put pressure on Mallett and not allow him to pick you apart. Arkansas lost 65-43 to Auburn earlier this year. With a better defense, this game should of gone to the Razorbacks. Instead, the Tigers won. Ohio State players will have a chip on their shoulder for this game to help the Big-10 out. Arkansas wins in a great game. Mallett wins over Ohio State in his career finale.
